Samsung LN26B460 26Inch 720p LCD HDTV

Brand: Samsung

The 720p series 4 was designed with many of the same high end components used across Samsung's entire LCD lineup. The series 4 piano black bezel elegantly frames a super patterned vertical alignment. Down firing stereo speakers are completely hidden in specially designed chambers at the bottom of the display to increase audio quality. more info

Our first LCD TV. Got this one for the bedroom. Arrived in great shape and was easy to set up. Have satellite receiver hook-up and get very nice picture (not HD at this point). Sound is fine for a bedroom TV. Menus are easy to navigate. Waiting to get a bigger Samsung for the living room.

Poor reliability
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I had this LCD for 13 months and then one day it just blanked out. When I turned it back on it would come on for about 2 minutes (no picture) and then turn itself off. I took it back to Best Buy who said it was out of Warranty by one month but agreed to send it in for repair at my cost. I received a call from the repair Dept a few days ago who quoted me a price of $399. They said the main board was burned up. I paid @ $600 for this TV 13 months ago and now you can buy the same Samsung LCD for @ $400. Needless to say that I will not be repairing this TV. Anyone need a 26″ doorstop? I have put my digital 2o” Sony back in service (that I’ve had for 10 years) and it’s doing fine. I will say that the Samsung did have a nice picture while it lasted.

Great Little TV
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Bought this to replace a Toshiba 26AV502U I bought just 6 months ago. This is a much much nicer set. The Toshiba had a very uneven backlight & horrible blacks. The Samsung is much better on both fronts. While it can’t match my CRT Projector or CRT tube set as far as blacks go, it’s pretty good for a LCD set, especially one that’s CCFL lit. Picture quality is excellent, don’t pay extra for 1080P on a TV this size! Has no problems with an HDMI signal over a 35′ cable. Sound quality is mediocre as other reviewers have pointed out, but I wasn’t expecting more.

Great Picture from the front
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This TV has a great picture from the front easily the best in the 26″ market. I searched for a long time and compared it to Sony and LG. I was considering Sony’s new KDL-26L5000 but this Samsung has double the contrast ratio.

Unfortunately the only negative is also the deal killer for me and that is the side viewing angle. I think the Sony did better in this area but not enough to warrant it over this samsung. Ultimately I decided to go with the Samsung LN32B650 for the bedroom over this 26″ Samsung as it has a better vewing angle, info link, 1080P, LAN port, and you can use the USB to actually view things and not just for service/firmware upgrades. Granted the LN32B650 is double the price :)

If you are looking for a LCD for the bedroom or kitchen where you plan to watch it head on and not the side then this is it. If you are insistent on a 26″ TV again, this is the best one out there right now. The fact is, if you want a TV with all the current bells and whistles, 32 inches is the smallest size you can find it in.

Nice picture, poor sound and poor channel management
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I bought this for the bedroom and wanted to keep it simple. Like most other reviewers – nice picture if you are not too far off vertical or horizontal. Internal speaker sound is poor. I tried using the headphone out jack into Boston Acoustic computer speakers and even with that setup it was difficult to get decent sound. Oddly, when you use the headphone out jack the tv senses it and then will not let you use the equalizer adjustment (it is grayed out). I think you can set the eq on the internal speakers and then plug into the headphone jack. I am trying to use a single remote and still have all of the tv functions including volume control. The L-R Audio Out and the optical out are fixed levels so you would have to use another remote to adjust volume.

The biggest downside for me is the inability to assign channel names or call letters. I use the C*cast cable system (without their box) so when Samsung autoprogram is performed all the stations are picked up as 4-1, 5-2, 89-3, etc. A few have call letters assigned but most do not. So it is unknown where CNN, TNT, etc are located until you manually select each channel, verify what you are seeing (CNN, TNT, etc) and then write them down. Samsung states in the User Manual “The names of digital broadcasting channels are automatically assigned and cannot be labeled.” I don’t know why they say this because it is just not true. Competing products do allow you to key in the names. My problem was that I could not find a 26″ tv that I could key in the names and had a headphone out jack. The tv just needs to be thought out a little more.

Amazon shipping was outstanding.

We have a Vizio 50″ Plasma in the living room that we have been real happy with but have to admit newer Samsung LCD has a better picture, sharpness and color. Would recommend to anyone.

I wanted a 720p LCD TV with a high dynamic ratio and decent speakers. After comparing the specifications from a number of brands, the Samsung came out on top.

Assembly and setup was simple and quick. I had my TV hooked up and running in 10 minutes. The menu and setup offers many options and adjustments. The picture is bright and sharp. Sounds quality is good.

So far, after a month of use, I’ve no complaints about this TV.

Based on the research I did prior to purchasing this product, Samsung had the best quality-price ratio. When it was delivered and I set it up (easy), it certainly didn’t disappoint. HD is spectacular in most forms, but this model has a superior picture to other brands I’ve seen in stores (Except Sony…about the same picture quality).

A year after I bought this, we needed another set for the living room…so I have 2 of these.

We originally saw this TV at Bestbuy with a price of $399.99 (March or April 2009). We weren’t sure if it would fit in the space we had so we got measurements and went home. We were also hoping they would have the TV on sale. Lo, and behold, it went up in price $130.00!!! We watched for months for someone to have it on sale again. The picture is wonderful and, so far, we haven’t run into any problems with the functions.

Outstanding Product
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is a great television for a bedroom or den. It works well as a computer monitor also. I was a little surprised when I opened the package and found out that the base of this model is different from the base pictured in the Amazon photo. The base pictured is transparent. This matches the transparent bezel that spans the base of this LCD. The one that I received has a solid black base that matches the piano black finish of the rest of the set. An attractive unit overall, but would have looked better with the transparent base. This set is surprisingly easy to set up and use. The included remote is well planned and easy to use. (not cluttered with alot of unnecessary buttons) Outstanding picture quality even without an HD signal. Standard cable signal is beautifully reproduced on this item. I hooked up a Samsung Blu-ray player and was totally impressed with the HD picture. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is looking for Samsung quality at an attractive price.

Great TV Until….
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
Bought last year’s model from Amazon in July 2008 (LN26A450C). Worked great until last week (a little over one year…now out of warranty). Now, the power standby light is on, but the TV will not turn on when the power button is pushed. Also won’t turn on when the remote power button is pressed. Picture was great until this happened. Samsung website says component has failed and it must be serviced. Probably more money to fix the problem, than just by a new one. I have Samsung computer monitors and another 40 inch LCD TV. All have been ok. Oh well, live and learn. I may try Sony next time.

Rating:5 out of 5 stars
First I bought a Visio. I had looked at them both in the store side by side and the Visio seemed slightly brighter – wrong. I went back for the Samsung – put them both in the same place the the difference was like night and day (literally – the Visio was dark and the Samsung was bright).

The Samsung TV had a very clear picture and seemed to have better color. The other TV was all orangy. I watched a hi-def movie yesterday (A Perfect Storm) and really appreciated that film for the first time because I could see in detail what was happening.

If there was anything I would change about the Samsung – it would be to make the sound a little better, although it was far superior to the Visio – it still had a little way to go before it would be called decent. I think I will have to add a couple of little speakers.

Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This TV is great! No complaints whatsoever. It was well worthwhile to buy a high quality coaxial cable. This TV, as most, doesn’t come with one. I hooked it up with a regular cable and the picture was very good. It improved noticeably with a heavier cable with gold RCA plugs. The Samsung LN26B360 was $60 less and the manufacturer claimed the picture was just as good. It was on back order when I bought the LN26B460. I wanted it right away. Cosmetically, the 460 is superior.

The timer function does not work properly when the TV is attached to a cable box. When the timer turns the set on it flips to the “TV” input source so all i get is snow. i have to manually change it to get reception on the cable . I bought this set for my bedroom and want to use it as an alarm clock so this is a significant defect. It is a nuisance. Samsung should include a disclaimer in their advertising and set up material. i had to talk to 3 people at Samsung before they would admit to this problem.

I bought this tv a couple months ago and it’s been great. I love the picture quality and I don’t have any problems. This tv is great for a bedroom, kitchen, or dorm room. Basically it’s good for any small room. It’s light and easy to move. This tv comes with a stand but nothing for mounting it on the wall so make sure to buy something seperate if you want to mount it. I love the touch sensive controls on the tv but they can be hard to see if you don’t have much light. Overall this has been a great product and I highly recommend it.

Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I hestitated buying this TV because of some of the criticism made here by people who are probably videophiles. I am not a videophile, but just a regular person who watches TV sometimes and wants a good picture. This TV more than satisfies my needs. It’s incredibly sharp. I wish I had bought it sooner.

There was one negative: it arrived without the four screws that attach the base (I believe someone had purchased this TV and returned it, failing to include the screws). I was instructed by Amazon to get those from Samsung, which was far more complicated and difficult than it should’ve been. But I did finally get them, and all is well.

Review; Delighted but still DISAPPOINTED
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I had limited space, so I scanned much of the internet to find the best LCD HD TV for my special need. After several days of surfing many possibilities, I settled on the highly rated SONY Bravada series or the SAMSUNG 460 with “A touch of Color” on the front panel which in this case was a light brushing of dark red across the bottom AND an unusual transparent clear stand (bezel) with some dark red highlights. I chose the SAMSUNG because everything being equal, I was REALLY INTRIGUED by the unusual transparent stand and platform and other design extras SAMSUNG seemed to carefully include in their product. Ordering through AMAZON was extremely easy and quick and I had every reason to believe I was going to again, receive exactly what was in the picture and what I ordered.

I received The 26″ SAMSUNG in less than a week, carefully packed and factory sealed. Unpacking it and setting it up was very easy and took less than 20 minutes; the instructions were also very easy and logical. The only problem, I purposely ordered THIS TV instead of the SONY, because of the clear (transparent) stand as illustrated in ALL the product pictures, but they sent one with a black stand instead. I contacted the seller AND Amazon about the mistake and they all told me to contact SAMSUNG which I Immediately did. SAMSUNG took all the information and made a report and was VERY cordial, but to this date (going on two months) nothing more has yet happened. I loved the product and the shipping service but as yet the mistake has NOT been resolved and corrected.

7/11 – I am still waiting for SAMSUNG to contact me and correct The above mistake, Nothing has yet happened!

Rating:1 out of 5 stars
After 18 months my older version of this television LN26A450C refused to power on. The red standby panel light glowed but turning on the television failed. This is caused by a defective 10-volt capacitor on the power board. A known and very common problem. Google ‘Samsung LCD Capacitor’ to find Youtube do-it-yourself videos and forum discussions on how to replace this capacitor yourself for less than $3.

I really love this Tv, the service was great delivered in three days.

The picture is excellent. if you have trouble with sound which you will especially using an antenna get Stereo speakers sounds great. seems like your sound can be bad because the carrier signal maybe low. but this is only if your using an antenna. I live fourty eight miles from the transmitters. our antenna has an amplifier on it but it is old twenty three years so were buying a new one this month.

Anyways this tv is just great you can adjust the picture size to suit what dvd your watching. you can plug your computer or camera into it.

But the picture is wow!!!! vivid and this is only a 720p. The size is right for our home. I am really happy with it!!!! I also read that samsungs are one of the better tv’s. So buy with confidence!!!!

This is my first LCD tv. I spent a lot of time looking at them in stores, reading reviews & finally decided that Samsung would provide me the best value for my money. I purchased this 26″ for my bedroom & it’s the perfect size. I was a little nervous setting it up but it was so simple. From attaching the stand, hooking it up & setting up the menu options. The picture is amazing! The colors are wonderful, the blacks are not washed out at all but appear rich & dark. There are a number of setting options to achieve the perfect picture for you, including adjusting the backlight. The sound is good, for a bedroom tv I’m not looking for a movie theater experience & quite frankly, I wouldn’t expect tv speakers to ever give me that. I would expect to buy separate speakers. The sound is just as good, if not better, then any past tv I have owned. I have a computer desk off to the side & often glance over at the tv and can view the screen just fine from side angles. There’s also a sleep timer for turning both off & on. I’ve watched everything from movies to sports to regular shows. Also, for anyone nervous about getting this tv without HD, it’s looks incredible even without the HD! There are tons of connections on this model too, including 3 HDMI (2 in the back & one on the side). There is a PC connection too but I haven’t tried that or the game mode. I can’t find a single negative thing to say & as a plus, the tv itself has a very classy sharp appearance. Very, very happy!

Great *bargain* 26″ Samsung
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I just bought this TV for my bedroom. It is the perfect TV for that. It isn’t too big that it overpowers the room, and isn’t too small either. I know some people complain about the audio. I think it sounds just fine. I wouldn’t have even thought about it. Like I said, it is in my bedroom and not meant to be a home theater TV. If you were looking for a home theater TV, get something bigger, and get external sound.

I have FIOS HD TV hooked up and an upconverting DVD player via HDMI ports. The picture looks great right out of the box. I set it to “movie” setting since I leave the room darker. The “dynamic” setting is too bright, but might be ok in a very bright room. The “standard” picture is fine. I highly recommend this TV if you are using the HDMI inputs. The picture leaves something to be desired if you are using the coax input or RCA inputs. Quite honestly, stick to a good old fashioned CRT if you are using analogue connections.

I compared this TV to several others, I couldn’t tell the difference in picture quality between it and ones priced up to $300 more. I don’t think 1080P is worth the extra money for a 26″ TV. Watching fast action like a hockey game, there can be some motion issues, but since it is only a 60 Hz TV, that is expected. The 120 Hz would show a slight improvement, but it isn’t bad enough of a distraction to bother me. A lot of people wouldn’t even notice, but some would. Again, it is minor.

I’m very happy with the picture quality in general, as long as it is a digital input, and especially high def. The colors are accurate and the blacks are nice and dark. Dark scenes do not get blurred together, you can see the difference in black levels easily.

If you are looking to spend less than $500 or even $600 for a TV, and you are using digital connections, this is the TV for you.

By the way, Best Buy sells this for $400. Not sure why everyone else has it for more.

We purchased this Samsung LCD television (model LN26B460) in mid-May and used it for less than 2 weeks when we lost BOTH the sound and the picture. We shipped it back to Samsung and tracked it. Samsung had it for 5 days before they notified us that they received it. We talked to them several days ago after hearing nothing from them in weeks and were told that they don’t have the part to fix it yet, and they don’t know when they will. So…we are watching our SONY TV that’s 15 years old and has never had a problem. We bought the Samsung on the recommendation of someone who as it. Mistake! At the very least, Samsung should have had back up parts before they marketed this product.!

Samsung Vs Sony in 26 inch
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
Having tested side by side this model of samsung and the entry level sony I can say without a doubt the sony is better. I was disapointed for this to be the case because honestly, I wanted and expected the samsung to be better. The colors while bright and intense overall were not better than the sony. Every single movie i played in blu ray or standard dvd needed to have adjustments made to look normal. I would say about 75% of the movies I tried looked better on the samsung but 25% looked bad and unrealistic. The sony over all beats it hands down on all material. It may not be as sharp and vibrant, but over all it looks more natural and realistic and better for upscaled movies than the samsung. I spent many hours trying to calibrate this tv and just couldnt come up with any happy medium. While the black levels were deeper, the contrast was worse, ie, if it was dark on the samsung, it looks great, but when it was dark, it was over dark, and scenes in movies like the matrix or batman returns just looked unrealistic. I tried everything to correct this with the settings but no happy medium could be found. Go with the cheaper sony, and samsung, stop setting your tvs to look good in a bright showroom and spend some time getting them to look good in a dark bedroom where they will end up. oh did i mention the sound is really bad compared to the sony, especially when using the output from the tv to drive a small left and right speaker, the sound was a few milliseconds behind that of the tv speakers and you could hear a pronounced delay which was unacceptable. this does not occur on the sonys output. Now if you compare the same models in the 32 inch versions, the samsung is a much better tv

Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The picture is great and the color is fantastic but the sound quality is very annoying. It is very tinny sounding. You would think Samsung would have provided better speakers. I have a 32 inch Samsung that we have in the bedroom and the sound is fine. We use this one in the kitchen/livingroom area and it is watched most of the day by my 3 yr old. The sound ends up driving me nuts after awhile (especially when used with vcr/dvd). I should have bought another 32″ even though it was too big for the area… As for recommending, I would with concessions. It may be okay in smaller rooms where volume doesn’t have to be turned up very loud, or in areas with less use. My cheap old smaller tv that this is replacing had way better sound.

I purchased a 26″ Samsung LCD HDTV a year and half ago, and it has suddenly started losing it’s picture. Every day when I turn it on, I get a blank white screen, even tho I can hear the sound. Then it changes to pink and blue and after about 10 minutes, it finally comes on. So, after only 18 months, I have to have a service call which will cost me 1/3 of the cost of the TV ! I am very disappointed in this. It wasn’t this exact model and I can see why they no longer carry it.

Nice LCD TV
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I don’t have any complaints but I’ve only had it for a week. I purchased this TV for my bedroom and it’s the perfect size. Big enough for viewing but small enough not to take over the room. Since I don’t have cable in my bedroom I only use it to watch DVD movies. It has a convenient button (P.Size) that adjusts a widescreen movie so that it fills up the whole TV screen without the black bars on top and bottom. The sound is just fine for a smaller room. I used different features in the Menu to adjust the picture and sound.

I also recently purchased a Samsung LN32B360 for my living room and I don’t notice much of a difference. The only thing I prefer about my 32″ is that you can twist the screen on its stand to adjust the view angles. You can’t tilt or twist this 26″.

Also, if you are concerned about the red coloring along the bottom of the screen, I don’t even notice it anymore. I was concerned about buying the TV because I don’t like red and it doesn’t go with my bedroom colors but it isn’t a problem.

26 ” Samsung TV
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I wanted a larger TV for my kitchen and a 26″ screen seemed to be the solution. This TV has a nice picture (great on near-high def, over the air digital transmission) and OK sound.

Like other Samsung TVs (I have three) it looks and feels like a quality product. The only downside is sound and that is mostly a volume issue. Kitchen TVs are more often stand alone and the volumn and quality has to come from the TV. If better sound is needed a sound bar would provide a small space, great improvement.

Samsung makes highly rated TVs for a reason . . . they perform.
