Amazing!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this TV about 2 weeks ago. Its amazing. The whole 1080p picture is a scam. there is virtually no difference at all between the 2. In fact you can set this tv to a 1080 display and it will work. (I did this on my xbox 360). Samsung always make high quality products and their picture quality is awesome. I saw this tv at Best Buy before i bought it and it definitely stood out. The price is unbelievable, it has burn in protection. You wont find a better deal.
Excellent

I bought the Samsung to replace my 3 year old Sharp Aquous 37″ LCD. All I can say is wow. The Sharp still has a very good picture, but next to the Samsung, it’s amazing how good the new TV is. Great value for the price, and mounted to the wall with a Cheetah mount, looks outstanding. Absolutely no complaints.
Beware!

I have owned it two months. Great picture. However after a few weeks I noticed a bright green dot that would appear. Not large but very bright and it flickers, sort of like saying, look at me, look at me! Extremely distracting because the rest of the picture is perfect. I thought, no problem, I have a one year warranty so maybe I should wait to see if it goes away. It did not, just got worse. So I called Samsung and worked my way through the menu system. After I explained the problem, the sympathetic person assured me that this would be repaired, but then transferred me to another person to whom I had to explain everything again. So these people told me that they would contact my local Samsung repair center and that I would get a call from the service center to set up a time for the repair. But the next day I received two calls, one from Samsung technical service, and one for AT&T technical services or something like that. After being on the phone with AT&T for 40 minutes they explained that a few bad pixels are considered normal and Samsung would not repair the TV. But they are VERY sorry. I waited a few weeks while the dot got brighter and then called Samsung again. Oh, they just didn’t understand why this was not repaired and I made them repeat to me that I would NOT get a call from AT&T or some other third party. Oh no, they were going to contact the my local repair facility personally and get the TV fixed immediately. I could expect a call the next day. Well, do I need to tell you who really called? Yes AT&T and Samsung technical department. AT&T asked me to tell them what the problem was, and I told him he was looking at my information on his computer screen and I didn’t feel like taking another 40 minutes to explain it again. So after a few minutes he transferred me to the ECR department. (EXECUTIVE Customer bla, bla, bla Dept.)The Executive part is suppose to be impressing you. Now he is sympathetic and assures me that it will be repaired, yes it will, absolutely! I made him say it ten different ways, yes it will be fixed, BUT then he said, Samsung does have a pixel policy. Really! I never agreed to any special policy regarding bad pixels. I only know that I have a defective TV and a one year warranty. Well for now that is where it stands. All I am saying is be very cautious when buying a flat screen and look for a zero defect warranty and a long return policy so you can do an exchange or refund. Good Luck

The TV arrived with a damaged panel but it still worked. Amazon offered me $50 to keep it the way it was. I countered with $250 to roll the dice but they refused. When I asked for an exchange they told me I would have to wait as much as six months for a replacement. I asked for it to be returned. I had to box it up and take time off work to wait for the freight company to pick it up. No more TVs from Amazon.
BEST HD TV………six stars

All I can say is WoW ,compared to an older DLP samsung HDTV that I had this one is much smoother and clearer, colours are deep and vibrant, the difference is like night and day. Get this one Excellent purchase.
Pros: clear smooth video,no pixalation from fast moving scenes, no fuzz or white dots common with lcd or dlp tv’s, all glass screen, standard dvd’s look very good compared to same content on lcd or dlp tv’s.
Cons: remote is not universal, tv stand should be a little more sturdy.
Huge HD TV

The TV was carefully delivered and brought all the way into the house. Set up is easy and the picture is awesome! The sound is very good. The sports channels feel like you are at the stadium. Recommend to everyone that you treat yourself and buy this product! We now watch way too much television! Thanks Samsung!
Top Performance without Paying Top Dollar
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
We have been very pleased with the performance of this unit. We replaced a SAMSUNG 40 inch with similar hardware and resolution features (now in our bedroom). This product is sleek, thin and looks great on our wall. Don’t fall for the hype of 1080 if you don’t want to spend the xtra dollars for it. If you plan to go bigger than this 50inch then go 1080! This 720 provides amazing images for gaming, blueray and HDSat channels. Rumors have it that 720 is on its way out, while 1080 will be taking the reigns so take advantage of the lower pricing before its to late.
3 HDMI Ports hasn’t bothered me at all. We have all HDMI A/V equipment running into my Yamaha receiver and ONLY one HDMI running into the TV. This still leaves 2 HDMI ports open. To control all of this, we use a Logitech Harmony 1000 remote control unit (that is awesome BTW)
“CONS”: Touch of Color only shows with bright light. The color is very very subtle and looks like a dark red wine when bright light is on it. All other times the unit looks like it has a black frame. Ironically the picture color is also very red. I had to bring down the red hue quite a bit.
PROS: Beautiful looking and performing product that SAMSUNG should be proud of producing. I have had many people in the tech industry as guests and they cant believe it is a 720 image. Everyone has been fooled into thinking it was 1080.
PROS#2: Just dicovered at christmas my brother has had the same TV for 4 months and paid 250 more than I did. He has not had any image/performance issues during this time and has a completely different a/v set up.
Wow and Double Wow!!

I just got this TV yesterday and I’m are still in shock! It is truly amazing! I don’t even have HD programing for it and I’m almost afraid to get it because the SD programing (from DirecTv) is such an awesome picture. I mean how much shock can I take, lol. It takes less than 5 minutes to set up and the only adjustment I have made so far is to turn the color down a little because the reds were so red they hurt my eyes!
The sound is perfectly fine and I feel no need for a surround sound setup. I love the remote too, but since I have a DirecTV remote I don’t even need it except to adjust settings on the TV. The size of this TV is perfect if not almost too big although I’m sure I’ll get used to, lol. I watched a movie last night and could almost count the individual hairs on peoples heads. I sit about 11 feet from the tv. Amazing, just amazing. Delivery was even two days early and the man brought the TV in, unwrapped it and discarded the box. He set it up where I wanted it and even turned it on to check that it worked. That left me with the only thing left to do was go through the easy on screen setup. I had been afraid that TV would be difficult to set up what with all the new technology, but it was so easy that even my 80 year old Mom could do it! No need to look any further, this is the TV you want! The delivery man also said that he has NEVER had anyone return this TV! Enjoy.
NEVER order a TV from Amazon
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I’ve ordered tons of stuff from Amazon and to this point have had a good experience on orders, the only exception being a book that arrived smelling like smoke. However, that was an independent seller, so everything with Amazon as the seller had been fine.
Until now.
This was the worst experience I have EVER had with ANY retailer. Not only did the TV arrive with a completely shattered screen, but I was NOT contacted at all by Amazon in regards to a replacement. When I called and was finally able to get through being on hold they weren’t even aware I had refused delivery. I was then informed that they would not replace my order-the order THEY had damaged. Instead I would be refunded so I could then purchase again. The reason for this? First I was told they didn’t have a comparable product. That seemed bogus because it was still listed online and there were more available. When I questioned how that was possible I was subsequently told that it was because the TV wasn’t sold through Amazon. When I asked how that could be since it stated it was sold and shipped by Amazon I was told “Well yeah but we don’t consider it as part of Amazon.” Gotta love that sort of logic. Ridiculous.
SURE I am going to just wait for my refund so I can then reorder another broken TV, I can hardly wait. I just wish I could rate this 0 stars.
Why I bought this one?
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’d like to share my thought of process in buying this TV.
First, I wanted at least 46″ for viewing at 10′ under $1300. My first choice was LCD with 1080P of course since it seems like everyone is going toward the LCD. I primarily watch sport and movie, not really plan for gaming. From reading from many resources (Amazon’s user review, [...].), watching at different stores (Fry’s, Bestbuy, Sears) in more than 10 visits, I concluded that plasma is better way to go in many reasons. From my eyes, I think plasma produces a better picture quality than LCD. Image quality from plasma looks more natural and not flat (don’t know how to explain). Comparing color, plasma generates better skin tone (in photography or flesh tone in (probably) videography???) and a lot cheaper.
I was worried about power consumption and dimmer picture comparing to LCD (when viewing in stores). Both of them are not really major issues at all at home. First I tried to find that how much it’s gonna cost me for watching this big screen TV. I looked at the back of the screen and found that the maximum power consumption rated is 360W. That’s one-quart of my portable oil radiation heater, not a big deal. For your information, 300W will cost you 3cent for an hour of usage. For the dimmed picture (like the picture is under-exposure in photography), I thought it should be ok in my apartment.
The next thing was 720P or 1080P. I went to stores and checked by myself that I can distinguish the difference (I consider my eyes are pretty good at this). From less than 5′, I can see that the pixel for 720P is bigger than the pixel of 1080P. That means from less than 5′ you will see the 720P has less detail. However, I will be watching at 8′-10′ which is not a problem at all. The 720P set was located side-by-side to the $1700 Samsung LCD and I watched both of them from 8′ away and there’s no different in resolution. I thought that I’m not gonna pay extra $700 for that for sure.
Next thing you’re gonna be worried was image retention (IR) and burn-in. If you understand how it works, you will know how to avoid that problems. From normal TV watching, there’s no way that your TV will have a burn-in or IR plus the TV set provides the pixel shift function to avoid the problem in case you play a game and sleep while the screen shows still image. If you feel sleepy, just turn off your TV and go to bed. Don’t waste your money of electric bill.
Only one pitfall I see is there’s only 3 HDMI ports
One thing that I don’t understand, the PN50B450’s response time is 0.001ms (way way shorter than regular LCD (4-6ms) and refresh rate at 600Hz which 5-time better than higher level LCD (120Hz), but when I watch Giants, I can see that it’s not fast enough when the comcast graphic is flashing (pixelette). There’s not problem at all for normal game play. So I don’t know how LCD or LED are going to handle this. Maybe it’s from the source (I subscribe to Comcast HD).

Nice picture of course. Had it delivered sometime in early June 08 or late May 08. On the Digital Transition day (June 12 2009) I noticed 3 vertical lines on the left side of the screeen. Hoping it was just a setting problem or a signal problem I switched to DVD input. No such luck. Lines still appeared. E-mailed Samsung, got no reply until a month goes by, then they give me a number to call. Call them, guy seemed willing to help but he gave me the impression that he thought I bought the TV in May of 2009. After I told him it was May of 2008 he told me that it might still be under warranty? The local service center called me and told me it would cost $530 to fix the TV. So much for that. And oh yeah, I now have 13 vertical lines running down the left side. THANKS SAMSUNG!

This TV is amazing. The picture is fabulous, The controls for Samsung are very intuitive and easy to use, connections are easy and have many options. And the delivery – top notch. I would not hesitate to recommend, this TV or Amazon delivery to anyone.
This is my second Plasma n 2 years, both from AMAZOn. I am a happy camper.
GREAT TV

Love this TV. I have not noticed any problems with this TV at all. The delivery was great, the guy that worked for CEVA brought in the TV and helped me set it up. The picture on this TV is super, I love watching DVD’s with the TV. I purchased this TV when it was on special which matched up the samsung Home Theater System with it. The surround sound is awesome and looks great. Good deal for the price

I Just picked up this TV at BB. I was just in the store walking around and went over to check out the PN50A450 but they had this next to the 1080p plasma from Samsung. This TV looked AMAZING. It was next to a couple of Samsung’s LCDs which looked much brighter but the colors were horrible. But I knew the brightness of the Plasma is just fine at home and the colors are very accurate. Put it in the truck making sure it stayed completely vertical and set it up at home – wow! Have my ps3 hooked up watching Blu-Rays on it and we are amazed at how great the picture looks. I haven’t tweaked any of the settings but it looks stunning out of the box.
It does have 2 component inputs even though they aren’t listed on here or on any location on the net for some reason, one of the reasons I was gunning for the A450 until I saw this. It also has a very slight touch of red color that you can only really tell if a brighter light is on.
The remote is pretty cheap, it almost feels like a fisher price unit. The remote itself does not have discreet input switching but I am pretty sure it accepts discreet IR commands if you have a universal like a Harmony.
The TV has a welcome mode that helps you set it up when you plug it in which was pretty cool.
Oh and the stand swivels which is pretty nice.
Overall this TV is amazing, it is like watching it at the theater. I can’t speak for the longevity or if any problems pop up, since I just got it, but I’ll update if there are any problems!
______UPDATE AFTER A WEEK OF HEAVY USE________4/19/09____
A few things I can update after using this thing to play a ton of Call of Duty World at War, the NHL/NBA playoffs, and Blu Rays:
I have experienced no burn in or IR issues. I have the pixel shift enabled at 2 2 2 in case you were wondering. But we play a ton of video games on this and it has been fine. I also lowered the contrast from the default settings by about 15 which did not affect picture quality.
This TV also generates barely any heat. After hours of usage I check with my hand and there are two small locations near the vents on the top back that are warm at best, but the rest of the TV is mostly cool to the touch still. I find this phenomenal considering my Samsung LCD that is next to it (2006 Model) generates at least 3 times as much heat.
Another thing to mention is how much you will get used to having no motion blur. We had the Cleveland/Detroit game on both the plasma and lcd and when I was looking at the LCD, I couldn’t believe I had been OK with all the motion blur you see in LCDs. There is none in the plasma. Also, the blacks and colors are so much better than an LCDS you will hate watching anything on an LCD after watching on this.
The only cons I have found so far is that the power and other buttons on the unit itself are touch sensitive, kind of like a PS3, but they are small and it is really difficult to see which one does which because the locations match the dark black of the frame so you have to kind of run your finger over the buttons and hope you are aiming your finger at the right one. Of course, most people use their remote for this. Another con is that the frame and stand collect dust very easily, however, it takes 2 seconds to wipe off with the towel. The screen, however, does not collect anything and has stayed crystal clean since it’s installation.
best viewing with over the air 720 broadcast from ABC, NBC and such
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I noticed with this TV the over-the-air network broadcast (which is mostly 720p with a rabit ear antenna ) will blow you away on the clarity. Next is the HD ESPN with dishnet it is also good but not as crisp as over-the-air (but much much better than my 35″ tube sony tv). Standard definition is not good I would rather watch on my tube tv. Remmember it not the tv it can be 1080p or 720p it is the input that is important!!
in Pure 720p input a 720p tv is much much more than suffecient that’s why I went with 720p and saved the extra cash!!!
This is a nice TV
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I am really happy with this set. I originally purchased an Insignia 47″ 1080P LCD, which is the best buy house brand. Granted it’s a generic low-end set but it looked a lot better than what it replaced and looked pretty good in general. After more research I decided to return it for this set, no looking back for me. This is only a 720p set but from 11′ away I can’t tell the difference. Maybe if you sit 4′ away you will see the difference but your eyesight will degrade so radiply it won’t matter for long anyway. But seriously, roughly around 7-8′ seems to be where I can distinguish the difference when comparing the 47″ 1080 to the 50″ 720 so for me I opted for the bigger screen for the money.
As far as plasma, I’ve been an LCD guy for years. Love the plasma though, the LCDs do offer a much brighter picture, but the plasma has more natural, deeper colors. It’s a matter of opinion I suppose, but I prefer plasma now. As far as ir, I haven’t had any. I didn’t break it in at all just jumped right in with these settings, [...], post 362, and between me and the kids playing Wii and ps3 it’s had static images on it for hours at a time. I was kind of worried about glare from the reflective screen, but it hasn’t bothered me in the slightest bit.
One feature you don’t hear mentioned much about ths tv,(even in the manual there is only a 2 sentence paragraph dedicated to it), is that it’s 3d enabled. From what I’ve read most of the more expensive Samsung’s don’t even have it, not sure why they included it in this model, but I personally verified the 3d sync input was there and have read on other forums about people who have used it and were impressed. Not much dedicated programming for it yet outside of a few blu-rays and console games, but if you hook your pc up to it theres software to play games and movies in 3d from your pc. PS3 is supposed to be having a firmware update next year that enables all games to be run in 3d mode. All you need is the lcd shutter glasses and the 3d emitter.
No comment on the tv sound, it is hooked up to a receiver and have no intention of using the tv sound.
All in all, this is a good tv and I am quite happy with it.
Strong product, for a very low price

This is my first review on Amazon, I’m a Prime user and have been with Amazon since basically day one. That says a lot about this product.
Recently my Sony Wega decided to melt on me, after ten years of being the primary television in the house. I loved that set, and was sorry to see it go.
After a ton of research on a replacement, and expecting to spend at least $1200, I came across this set and it stopped me in my tracks. The cost per inch grabbed my attention at first on Amazon, along with the free shipping and zero sales tax to Florida. I noticed that the local big box had one in stock so I went to take a look, and I wasn’t disappointed. That being said I don’t believe the big box shops run full 1080p through their sets so mostly you will not notice the difference between a 720 or 1080 set. I was having a really hard time justifying spending anymore that $799 at this point, and something would have to blow me away in order to pass on this tv. Nothing did, so I picked it up.
Overall, impressed. I have a PS3 running through HDMI (.99 cents on Amazon… don’t pay more for the hype), satellite tv via HDMI and I run my laptop through it occasionally. The picture is outstanding though it will take some tinkering and breaking in. Sports, video games, movies, HD tv shows, all amazing. The deep colors and true black of the plamsa is far and away better than lcd. I’m sure my next set will be an LCD or OLED, but for now the plasma is far from obsolete.
The tv does say that it’s displaying at 1080i and 1080p when the source is higher than 720. I’m not sure if this is the case, or if it is just stating what the source resolution is… but I feel like the picture quality is much better when it states the resolution is 1080. Who knows, maybe you do get a lot more tv for the money.
Currently I have no complaints. Get a good stereo or surround receiver and speakers… tv speakers suck, plain and simple. That’s not a complaint, but a reality.
The tv looks great, it does have a VERY slight touch of color, but not as red as the others.
To sum it up, you can’t beat the size and quality for $799. The price has allowed me to upgrade speaker and pick up a smaller LCD for the bedroom.
Still pending

So far the TV gets 0 stars and Amazon gets 5 stars. The TV was delivered by Pilot in the back of a Ford F-150. it was -2 degrees when he arrived. He brought the TV in and unboxed it. The screen and everything was fine. The delivery man said that the TV had to be room temperature before it could be powered up. The delivery man was nice and wrote on the invoices “subject to powering up” and I signed it. I left the house for 6 hours and when I came back my husband was mounting the TV to the wall. All was well until we attempted to power the thing up. It did not turn on. I checked the outlets and everything. Amazon was closed at this point to talk to a human, so I called Samsung 24 technical support. The woman that I talked to did not speak English very well. She told me to unplug it and plug it back in and make sure there is power to the unit(yeah like i didn’t think of that). She then informs me that I need a service call(REALLY). She gives me a services number and an 800 number to call if someone hasn’t contacted me within 48 hours. 48 hours go by and no one calls. I call the number provided and guess what…the services center is in NEW JERSEY and I live in IOWA. I am informed by the woman that I am “out of their service area”. I guess 2800 miles is a long way to travel to fix a TV. I contact amazon and within 15 minutes I have a new TV coming to me and they are going to take the 50 inch paper weight away when they arrive. Nothing likes to work when it -2 degrees so maybe pilot shouldn’t deliver electronics in the back of a Ford when it is -2 degrees outside….just a thought. Let you know if the 2nd TV works. SAMSUNG 24 hour technical support is worthless, and anyone that thinks that New Jersey services Iowa needs to take a 4 grade geography lesson.
I’m sold!

Well I finally replaced my 36″ HDTV Sony it always got a great picture
but this Samsung 50″ (pn50B450) puts it to shame. The black level is
great and there is no motion blur.I’m sitting about 8′ from set watching a blueray and it looks fantastic. The only change I made was reduce color
intensity from 50 t0 40. that was it…..
Panasonic is loosing it’s ground as being the Best Rated after this Samsung 600hz came out.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
First off let me say Plasmas are much better picture than LCDs but yes they do consume more electricity than any 50″ LCD. I compare the newest Viera 600hz and this side by side (actually two 600hz Vieras and this one). This one is clearly better picture. The Panasonic 720 and this 720P are actually higher than what is advertised. They are actually not 720p, 1280×720 but 768P or 1366 x 768.
“Brief Notes”:
* Of what is not true anymore: At 600hz, this is faster than even the newer generation of LCDs so retail store use to push LCDs (esp. gamers) since the refresh rating.
* Burn in is not so much a factor any more. The screen saver kicks in early and Samsung has better technology to counterbalance the burn in effect that was in older generations. The 720p Viera X1 Series.
* TC-P50X1 clearly shows blacks better but not quality of picture. The X1 does not have that good of rating as you see from Amazon and other review sites.
If you have the money for a 1080p than go for it but I would go with a Plasma 768P, rather than spending about 40 percent more this is the greatest bang for the buck even though labeled as a 720p.
This generation of Samsung Plasmas rule. Samsung LCDs are professionally reviewed as the best but I have not seen a better looking TV than a Samsung whether it be a 768P or a 1080P.
Great TV for price
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this TV about a month ago after reading several reviews. I decided on the 720p over the 1080p because studies have shown that the human eye can’t really tell the difference; what you can tell is that there is quite a difference in price.
Set up was pretty quick and the picture quality is great. Some people complaint about the remote, while it is big, it does not bother me and the buttons are easy to push.
There is a button that can be pushed to change the size of the picture, but I noticed on some settings it crops a bit to much. Once I had everything set, I rarely need to go back and change the size.
The DVD player and my 7 year old son’s playstation hooked up easy enough that he can easily move the PS from our TV to his and back.
We use our TV for the basics. Switch on and off, change channels, watch movies and play games. So far we are very happy with the choice we made and the 50 inch is awesome.
great buy

First let me say that I own a Samsung 40″ LCD 1080p, and I am very happy with that one and really like Samsung for home electronics. I found this deal from a Google search because Fry’s had the PN50B450 on sale for 1,099.00. I found it cheaper through Google shopping at Best Buy. Though we had some very questionable service at best buy (make sure they don’t set the plasma it on it’s side, they know better!).
This TV is just a great TV. I am viewing HD Clear QAM channels through the basic cable line and they look AWESOME. The only thing I ran into is the HDMI ports require the cable to be HDMI 1.3, so my DVD player has yet to work because I have to get a new cable. It says this in the manual though, so I wasn’t alarmed.
I looked for reviews like this, and I especially liked the one from the guy who used to install Home Theater Systems. This is a great TV and if you can find it at a good price, buy it!
Screen BURN IN
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I’ve had this TV for 5 months, and it already has 5 games burned into the screen. One of witch after only 3 hours of play. Also network logos like Nick Jr and Sifi channel are burned in. why dose it have a game mode if you can’t play games on it, you can’t even watch most TV channels because there logo will burn into your screen. What good is a TV you can’t watch? No help from Samsung with this. VERY UNSATISFIED!!!
PS. My complaint is with Samsung, not Amazon.
Unbelievable TV for the price…

I bought this TV from Amazon the week before Thanksgiving on a Wednesday night. It happened to be on sale for $799 with the Samsung DVD/theater system thrown in for free. After having read all the glowing reviews from others on this page and doing an adequate amount of research on Plasma vs. LCD, LED and 720P vs 1080P, I decided this was the best bang for the buck! Amazon actually said it would be shipping on the following Monday and would arrive a week or so beyond that. I was very pleasantly surprised to check the status and see it was actually shipped on Thursday and arrived at my house on Monday!! This was great for me since my parents were coming for Thanksgiving and I wanted to show it to them. I was worried after reading all the reviews that my expecations might be a bit too high. Having said that, I can confirm that the picture on this TV is absolutely amazing!! My earlier 40 inch Sony LCD TV was very nice, but this Samsung TV is on a different level! It looks so real and the blacks are amazing! As others have also said in their reviews, there is an extra composite output which is not mentioned in the specs, its shared with one of the component outputs so you can have one or the other. It probably could have come with one more HDMI output, but 3 is fine. The Samsung DVD/theater system works great with the TV. When I turn on the DVD player, it automatically turns on the TV, that’s pretty nice! The receiver/speakers on the theater system are great as well!
The TV was actually shipped by some other carrier by Amazon called CEVA. The people that delivered the TV actually came into my house and opened up the box to show me it wasnt cracked, etc. They even hooked up the TV stand to the TV and turned the TV on to show me that everything was working correctly! I was very happy with this because if they hadnt done this, I might have had to tell them to wait so I could check the TV myself to see if it was cracked and possibly have to refuse delivery. Glad I didnt have to do that!
When I first turned the TV on in the afternoon when it arrived, I was a bit worried though because the picture was a bit blurred and I thought something must be wrong. However in the evening when I turned the TV back on, everything looked fabulous! I can only assume that it may have had to do something with the TV moving around during delivery. I’ve had the TV for about 2 weeks now and everything’s working great, hoping it will stay that way for a long long time!
The picture looks especially amazing when I am watching HD broadcasts via cable. I havent even had to fiddle with the picture settings! I cant wait to try out the TV with Blueray DVDs since I’ve seen some reviews saying these will look amazing with it. Thank your Amazon and Samsung!!
Great TV Great Price!

This TV is on sale at fry’s for 649 in Houston till 1-7-10! 50 plasma for 702 after tax, not too shabby huh?
Very rich colors, great picture from my standard viewing distance, about 10 feet. A close look at the scren and i can see the pixelation.
PS3 Modern warfare 2 and especially Bluray Speed racer look great on this TV.
If you can get it for close to this price you will not regret it, I would pay 800 if i didnt have a choice.
Excellent TV for the price!!!

I have recently got this TV delivered after my 56′ DLP started turning itself off randomly every 3 hours. Since I got the service plan three years ago I got two tv’s for the price of 1. I got this TV which is fantastic. The colors are vibrant and really pop off the screen. I play a lot of games on XBOX 360 and PS3 which I don’t know why they list the TV as displaying only 720P. I can set all three resolutions 720P, 1080i, and 1080P and XBOX accepts all of them. Could not be happier….

Update 9-5-2009
I still think this is one of the best deals out there on TV’s. I recently compared again along price and features and this TV again won out. I have purchased this same model for my living room. The kicker was it was [...] cheaper than last time. If you need a large screen this is the best one available.
Nice HDTV and a great price!

I bought this TV on Amazon and got free shipping. This is an excellent tv. It meets Samsung’s usual high quality standards. I highly recommend this product. Amazon shipped promptly and TV arrived in perfect condition. Overall, an excellent Samsung product and great service from Amazon as always.
Great TV Great Price!!

Great picture. great quality. I purchased this TV from Amazon 07/07/09 and have been enjoying it ever since. To be honest I was looking at the 1080p plasma’s and I’m glad I went with this one. My neighbor just bought the same one after Christmas and loves it. Highly recommend for the price.
Wonderful TV – Especially for the price!

I was having a hard time deciding between this TV and the Panasonic Viera P50X1. My husband and I went to Best Buy and luckily they had them set up side by side to compare. The Samsung seemed to have more accurate color (albeit barely perceptible) so we were leaning towards it anyway. Then, the price on the Samsung was temporarily lowered to $799 which definitely sealed the deal! We received it last Thursday, which was a day earlier than estimated. We’re both very impressed. We were watching the US Open in HD and it really feels like you’re standing on the court right next to the player’s sweaty body. So far we’re thrilled with our purchase, and I’m very happy with Amazon as they (in my experience) always make transactions seamless and stress free.
Great deal to get 720 rather than 1080
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I liked the first one I got so much I decided to get another one. Picture quality is much better than LCD even compared to 1080 but I don’t think I would gone much bigger than 50″ with a 720. I strongly believe that, in general, you get what you pay for but this is an exception. My situation is not the same as everyone but if you don’t watch much TV, play video games, or have a brightly lit room for a TV, this is a no-brainer to save the money and get this 720 plasma rather than 1080 LCD. The money you save will help buy you the next technology.
The first delivery of this TV was damaged – the screen was cracked so I would advise others to open the box before signing the reciept that you “received the item in good condition”. I didn’t have any problems returning it but I was initially concerned when looking at the delivery receipt.
Freaking Awesome!!!

I bought this knowing 720p wasnt the best but everyone ranted about how good it was anyway. Well after installing and connecting to my components i was amazed at its picture. I saw the info box in the upper left and it says regularly, 1920×1080 I believe and other times its 720 measurrements, depents on what station I am on with my satellite. but it always matches the Satellite output. So how can this be a 720p tv when it is outputting 1080? I have had many friends come over and they saw this is as good or better than their legit 1080 tv. I feel I got the wrong one by mistake, but I checked the box and paperwork, no its this one, the 720p model. If anyone can explain please do!
Anyway, I totally love this TV and its features! I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it!
Great Value for a Very Good TV

Bought this on-line after seeing it in couple of big box retail stores. You can’t set the picture of this TV apart from many others you’d see on the wall and that is the real point of buying it. This is a great choice for anyone looking at using this as a bedroom/living room TV (for HD cable/regular movies). I have dish network TurboHD package (HD content only) and it performs admirably. Great value over LCDs of similar size. The colors and contrast is fantastic (better than LCDs) and unlike Panasonic plasmas, the picture is a whole lot brighter(main concern for folks considering Plasmas vs LCDs). LCDs still are a lot brighter but it won’t make a material difference to your TV viewing. For less than $800, it is really a steal. Outside of Blue Ray and old HDDVD movies, next to no HD content is available in 1080P. In case that changes in the next couple of years, your unused 1080P capability that you pay for today would have depreciated more than the price of this TV. You’d probably be able to buy a more recent 1080P TV then for a fraction of what you’d pay today.
In short, this TV makes all the sense for today and for the foreseeable future. The sound is prabably average for a TV but if you care for good audio, you should hook it up to a receiver and decent set of speakers.
Great Value

I have had this TV for about a year. It is the best TV you can get for $1000 or less. Only downside is weak speakers, and I have surround sound to cure that.
Great T,V.

The Samsung PN59b450 50 inch plasma HDTV is a very good buy. Extremely fast shipment. The picture on this set is very bright and clear. The B model runs much more cooler than the A model. This 50 inch plasma runs even runs cooler than my 37 inch LCD. All in all was a very good purchased and worth the price.
Great TV, should be 5 stars….

Really nice looking TV. I don’t see how the 1080p option would be worth the extra $$$, maybe if you are REALLY REALLY into blu-ray. Got a nice price at Best Buy ($799). I’ve had this set for less than a week and I would like to give it 5 stars BUT….there is some interference with my cable box and remote…in other words, when the TV is on it becomes difficult (sometimes impossible) to use my cable box remote to change channels or manipulate the DVR. I’m looking for a fix to this if anyone has had the same problem!
NOT THE BEST CHOICE
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I own 3 Samsung 1080 LCD TVs so I’m a fan. My husband wanted a bigger screen and heard plasma was the way to go. Since I love the Samsung TVs we already have I thought it would be a no-brainer. I’m not a tech wiz so I’m not sure if it’s the 720p, large screen size, our cable provider (we have HD cable service) or the plasma but this set was not a great option compared to others.
When viewing this Samsung, even though the colors and contrast look good and the pixelation isn’t too bad – any words have slight blurring and that’s a deal breaker for me. This TV does not present a crisp enough picture to warrant all the stars as far as I am concerned. Yes, it has some great features as noted by others but bottom line, there are better plasma options available (Sony and Panasonic for starters). So you have this huge 50″ screen but what good is it if it isn’t a crisp picture? For those who told me that it’s not a real issue since it’s only when viewed up close, why would you accept that for the money spent? Wouldn’t you want to start out with a clean and crisp picture to begin with? That’s my view…….
I do love the way there is no fast motion blurring which is a big plus for my husband when watching sports. On this it beats our LCDs hands down but I want more if I have to spend much more money. I’m holding out for a LED TV which is the best option of all.
720p not a problem AT ALL!

My husband and I reserched TVs for about a week before we went out to replace our old DLP. We went with Samsung, because our old tv was a samsung and we had great luck with it. It was a DLP and our bulb lasted almost four years…that’s alot!! But we decided to upgrade to a plasma. We struggled between the 1080p and the 720p for a long time, and ultimately went with the 720p. Its been great! No difference whatsoever. Most HD channels only display in 720p anyway, and even if they do display in 1080p…this tv converts its display to 1080p!!! We have had this TV for about a month and we love it. Highly recommended!
Best Buy Out There!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Just bought this today at Best Buy who had it on sale for $959 and 36 months same as cash! I used to build custom Home Theaters and have had the opportunity to see a lot of Video Displays. I have viewed cable delivered HD (mostly 1080i) and Blu-Ray DVD via a Sony PSP3….and I can tell you that anyone would be hard-pressed to discern the difference between this units 720P display and any other at 1080P. Superb Picture! As far as I am concerned, Samsung has set the standard. I just feel sorry for the poor fool who spends more than $990 on a 50″ Plasma unit~ …and please, do not spend $200 on a wall mount! the Cheetah APTMM2B is more than suitable.
Very nice TV

I was a bit skeptical about buying plasma and 720p. However, after watching this TV for a month, the picture is fantastic. The 50-inch screen is very nice and the color and resolution of the screen is excellent. For the price, this TV is an excellent buy. Samsung makes excellent TVs.
WoW! best deal I found
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I found this TV new at B&HPhoto.com for $699; Price includes S&H & no tax! My first concern prior to buying was the TV being 720p… My local Best Buy had it on display next to several 1080Ps and to my surprise this TV looked better or the same as the ones priced b/w 1500 to 2000 range. Still I had some doubt, but the price was unreal, so I bought it from B & H Photo.
Now that I’ve used it for a while I am delighted to say that picture is excellent! I’ve watched a few cartoon movies in blue Ray with my kids and the movies have a 3-D look to them. Terminator Salvation, the newest Harry Potter release in Blue Ray are amazing. You see things that you had not seen before.
Pros:
Picture Quality —- Do not concern yourself with 1080P if you buy this TV. Even though it is a 720P, I promise you will not notice a difference
Over the airway HD Picture —- I use an antenna to get over the air Local HD programming and picture is superior,
Standard TV signal —- The picture image from standard (non-HD) is ok, but most programs I watch are in HD so this is of no concern for me
Screen size 50″ for the price
Refresh rate, contrast, blacks, also this TV has a 3D engine built in for playing games in 3D — I’ll never use this but it is a plus
Reflection is not bad and TV has features built in to help reduce this
Has a good selection of inputs/outputs
Cons:
As with most LCDs/Plasmas— “Speaker quality/sound”— it is Ok, but you’ll want to upgrade…..I bought an all in one home theater system and for me it does the job and is way better than the speakers that come with the TV, however if you are not a big movie watcher than I would not worry about upgrading.
“Remote” —- This remote is a little tooooooo busy and might be an issue for some.
“on/off music” — annoying, every time you turn the TV on or off a short tone plays.. You might be able to turn this off, but i’m not sure….petty I know.

Great TV but. . . .
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I’m really happy with the tv. This is my first HDTV and the HD channels look great. My only concern is I sometimes can see vertical lines on the left and right side of the screen. These lines appear to correspond to the edge of the picture for an SD channel. I can only see the lines when there is a light background. I have the pixel shift activated, etc. 95% of the time, I can’t see the lines. But if I stand close to the tv and am looking for it, I will see it. I’m concerned because I’ve only had the tv for a week. The line is basically transparent. Still, for the price and quality of the picture, I love my tv.

I purchased this TV after reading all of the reviews on this site along with all on the BB web site. I was very impressed with the number of people raving about this TV. So I ordered it without even a trip to see one. No one lied, as this TV, for being a 720 versus a 1080, is outstanding in every way. I purchased it for a second TV to free up our 65 inch from the kids during football season. I have had this TV for a month now and I love it in every way. The clarity of the tuner (no cable box) and the PS3 games is phenominal. The plasma vesus my DLP is like watching an ultra clear tube TV. People say about the sound but for normal use, I have no complaints. The boys use the PS3 with the sound about 13-15. Plenty loud enough to warrant me not hooking up my old sound system. I ordered this on a Tuesday and it was in my house working by Friday lunch time. Now that may not be the rule, but I was certainly impressed. If you are looking for a nice sized TV for a living room, look no further, order it. You will be glad you did! For $800, you simply can not find a better TV out there. I assure you, this is a great deal. Samsung rules the TV market IMHO!

Adequate for home theater
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Taking the plunge into HDTV from a CRT, I’m mostly pleased, and with decently-transferred DVDs the image quality is what I was hoping for — a viable home theater.
I made the mistake of making the Planet Earth DVDs the first thing I played. They almost looked better on my old CRT, and I was crestfallen that I’d just thrown away $900, but putting on a few other DVDs showed it to be a DVD issue, not the TV (I’m running a progressive scan DVD player with component cables directly to the TV).
I’m also running Yamaha’s entry-level receiver, HTR-5830, and unfortunately I’m noticing a little lip-sync issue. The next one up, HTR-5840, has lip-sync correction.
One area that was a huge improvement from CRT was with the XBox 360. Really impressive.
So to those making the move into HDTV for the first time, be aware of factors that will make it a less-than-ideal experience, but it’s a great TV for the price and in the right circumstances.
Update—————————-
Not having bought a receiver in a few years, I thought all I’d need to have the receiver handle all outgoing video traffic was one cable. Evidently it’s now acceptable for a receiver to only transmit the same kind of traffic that goes in; in other words, video input from composite-, component- and HDMI-connected sources would need three different cables out to the TV.
It’s a scam that video conversion isn’t standard in today’s A/V receivers.
